Hydrazyne sulfate

Hydrazine Sulfate is called the anti-cachexia drug because it reverses the general physical wasting, weight loss and malnutrition associated with cancer and other chronic diseases. Secondarily it acts to stabilize or reduce the size of tumors.

Dr. Joseph Gold pioneered the use of Hydrazine Sulfate at the Syracuse Cancer Research Institute in Syracuse, NY, in the early 1970’s. Gold theorized that cancer cells and normal cells derived their energy from different sources. Gold concluded that cancer cells use primarily anaerobic glycolysis (fermentation) to produce energy while normal cells are aerobic and use oxygen to respire.

Hydrazine Sulfate acts by inhibiting an enzyme, which cancer cells need to produce energy, by blocking certain metabolic pathways in the cancer cells. Appetite improves; as a result patients gain weight, experience an increase in strength, and improve their performance status while pain decreases. Dr. Gold has been treating patients with high grade of “cachexia” or terminal cancer patients with gelatin capsules containing 60 mgs. of Hydrazine sulfate four times a day (generally to be taken at some time after meals). The results were a marked return of appetite followed by continued increase in weight, remarkably restored physical activity, and eventually a decrease in tumor size, decrease in pain, and related decrease of symptoms.

The simplicity of Hydrazine sulfate is in its inhibitory effect on the enzyme which makes it possible to convert lactic acid to glucose. This metabolic inhibitor might theoretically induce anabolism by blocking catabolic pathways, presumably by inhibiting the gluconeogenic enzyme phosphoenolpyrovate carboxykinase and preventing the energy requiring conversion of lactate to glucose.

There are several tests performed in the United States and Russia addressing the help that cancer patients have experienced with Hydrazine sulfate since 1975, which Dr. Gold indicated in his first study (Use of Hydrazine sulfate in terminal and pre-terminal cancer patients). Unfortunately, the American National Cancer Institute and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) refuse to recognize that this medication can truly help people with all types of cancer.

Conclusion.- The experience with Hydrazine sulfate points to a potential role for this agent in maintaining weight in patients with advanced cancer exhibiting “Cachexia”. Whether maintenance of body weight under these conditions will be associated with improvement is an important clinical outcome variable for overall survival.

Hydrazine Sulfate is taken by two different types of patients:

-Patients with early stages of diseases will want to prevent “cachexia”.

-Others who are already suffering physical wasting will want to reverse the process.
